Neuromodulators (Botox and Xeomin)

Neuromodulators can help combat lines in the face, such as forehead lines and crow's feet. Many patients seek this treatment in their 20s or 30s to prevent wrinkles and fine lines from forming as they age. There are few requirements prior to treatment, but active skin infections or inflammation at the injection site can slightly increase the risk of complications. Our providers will consult with you and determine if neuromodulators are a suitable treatment option for you.

Botox^® and Xeomin^® are two neuromodulators that work by temporarily blocking nerve signals to targeted muscles, preventing them from contracting. This relaxation of the muscles smooths out fine lines and wrinkles, particularly those caused by repetitive facial expressions, resulting in a more youthful and refreshed appearance.

Before starting your neuromodulator injections, your provider will ask you to make several facial expressions. These visual cues will help your provider determine and mark the precise injection sites on your face based on the muscles responsible for wrinkles or areas needing contouring. Depending on the size of the target area, several tiny injections may be required, and they will be done with a very fine needle. The procedure typically takes less than 10 minutes to complete.

There is minimal downtime following Botox^® or Xeomin^® treatment. You can resume normal activities immediately, though it's recommended to avoid strenuous exercise and excessive sun exposure for the first 24 hours. Avoid rubbing, massaging or applying pressure to the treated areas for at least 24 hours to prevent the product from migrating to unintended areas. Minor side effects, such as redness or swelling at the injection site, usually resolve within a few hours.

Neuromodulator results typically become visible within a few days and continue to improve over the following two weeks. The effects last about three to four months, leaving the skin looking smoother and more youthful. Regular treatments can help maintain these rejuvenating results.
