Vaginal Rejuvenation (Labiaplasty)

Candidates for a vaginal rejuvenation procedure are women of any age who experience functional or aesthetic concerns with their vagina. These concerns vary from discomfort during intercourse, inability to wear certain clothing, pain with exercise, hygiene issues or simply dissatisfaction with the appearance of the labia. 

Ideal candidates are those in good health, who have realistic expectations about the outcomes, and understand the potential risks and benefits of the procedure.  It is important for potential candidates to discuss their medical history, including any previous surgeries or trauma to the area as well as current medications with their healthcare provider. 

Different surgical techniques are utilized depending on the specific concerns of the patient and what is seen on physical examination. Some common techniques are trim or wedge labiaplasties, labia majora reduction or augmentation, and clitoral hood reduction.

Depending on the surgical procedure required, these surgeries can be done under local or general anesthesia. Dr. Tieman will discuss options with you at the time of your consultation. 

Recovery from vaginal rejuvenation depends on the extent of the procedure. Typically surgical interventions require patients to take a few days to a week off from work. Swelling, discomfort and bruising are common. Ice and pain medication help to manage symptoms. Patients are advised to refrain from sexual activity and the use of tampons for 4-6 weeks to allow for proper healing. As your nerves heal, you may experience numbness and discomfort at the incision site(s) including tightness and itching.

The results of vaginal rejuvenation can significantly enhance comfort, sexual satisfaction and confidence. Surgical procedures typically show results immediately, though the outcome may be obscured initially due to swelling. These results are usually permanent, barring factors like childbirth or significant hormonal changes that may alter the tissue.
